02.06.2013 We are After Atoms
It is not enough to say, "I had high grades in Physics lessons when I was in high school", "I am a huge fan of Star Wars", "I have watched every single documentary on the universe"... We, a group of journalists, spent three days in CERN; a part of the team is trying to perform lateral transfer to METU Physics... I, on the other hand, am still at the level of "subatomic particles". But I have a consolation: I got wise about how to visit CERN and how much it costs, how the environment is, Turkey-CERN relations, where the accumulation of Turkish scientists is used. I will tell you! I had high grades in high school physics, I watch every documentary about the formation of the universe and I also watched the series "Fringe"... But it is just not that easy to understand! We, a group of journalists, spent three days in CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, a part of the team is trying to perform lateral transfer to METU Physics... I, on the other hand, am still at the level of "subatomic particles" like the character Penny in The Big Bang Theory series. Of course I have consolations: 1- I got wise about how to visit CERN, how much it costs and Turkey-CERN relations; I will tell you 2- I am a better Instagram and Twitter user than physicists :) I believed that I would completely understand the procedure in CERN since I love comic books, computer games, I am a huge fan of Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, Star Trek and Star Wars, I read the columns of İsmet Berkan a lot and I solve mind questions... But of course it was just not that easy... However, I have learned many things and I will explain; but let me start from the beginning. Filli Boya has been obsessed by the "color" issue and I know that this is quite natural for a paint company! However, they go behind the subject; they are not only interested in the relationships of colors with fashion or neurology but they also benefit from the scientific researches. For instance, they went to Finland last year and visited a "color committee" where Ümit Ünal and Ödem Süer were consultants; they spent a few days with the committee which "decides" the colors which will be the latest fashion... At that time a journey was planned to CERN to find answers about the question, "How is color formed in the mind?", we were with them as a group of journalists. NİLAY ÖRNEK nilay.ornek@aksam.com.tr IT IS NOT DIFFICULT TO VISIT CERN FREE OF CHARGE. I wanted to specify this at the beginning for you not to feel like you are reading an "unachievable" story. It can give a false impression, like it is impossible to enter a place like this where a range of scientific experiments are performed and which is full of scientists and is subject to documentaries, conspiracy theories and news, but it is not like that... There is a "visits" section on the web site of CERN. I can recommend that it is important to get an appointment through the said page as soon as you decide to go if you will visit CERN "individually". I checked and saw that there are no places until September. However, your chance increases in group visits, you can get an appointment for the near future. You will not make an additional payment for entrance. Since CERN is really close to the airport, you can reach there easily after landed on Geneva Airport in Switzerland. When we were there, we came across students of a school from Florya, Istanbul, they were visiting the museum in CERN. They said that they came there through a company. How is it pronounced? "SERN" or "SÖRN"? In Geneva, some restaurants are way worse than France; they do not even have a menu in English. However, in CERN where scientists from 85 countries work, "many" languages are spoken. The native languages are English and French. Some pronounce CERN as "sern" and some as "sörn"; the reason for this is that CERN is an abbreviation of a French term (Consei Europeen pour la Recherche Nuclaire-European Organization for Nuclear Research). It is pronounced as "sörn" in French and "sern" in English... METROSEXUAL SCIENTIST Thanks to Hollywood movies (USA), plumbers or firemen are quite handsome and well-built as well; however, all scientists are unattractive, antisocial, poorly dressed and wear glasses with thick lenses, aren't they? There was a huge board in the entrance of CERN and on the board, there were black and white photographs where scientists struck funny poses... There was a big photograph created from the smaller photographs of hundreds of scientists. Quite handsome young men, beautiful women... Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kerem Cankoçak who guided us through our visit and answered our questions which do not go beyond the law e=Mc2 patiently, is also one of the representatives of the example, "attractive, handsome scientist". His wife Riitta is a beautiful, cute, smart and funny Finnish woman. She speaks Turkish very well as well as English and Italian; she is also a poet. POPULAR AT BARS NOW Riitta Cankoçak said "There was a pool right there" when we were heading to France from Switzerland; young and beautiful girls and models go there to steal the hearts of "popular men" in summer. She said, "Since the scientists' popularities increase, they think that scientists earn a lot of money and they are very interesting persons". Sercan Şen, one of the Turkish scientists who guided us there also confirms this. He said, "People did not understand me when I said that I was a "Physicist" and they even thought that I was making a joke about my physical appearance in the past, now we are popular." TRAINING FOR TEACHERS When applied to CERN, especially high school teachers can receive lessons free of charge to explain the science to the young ones in a simple and correct way. "BLACK HOLE" AS AN ART GROUP As you know, CERN covers the field where the experiments are made and the surrounding considering a 27 km region as diameter in a location that covers both Switzerland and France by the Alps... Here, art is in the foreground. Art works of a group which consists of women are exhibited under the name of "Black Hole". COFFEE SHOP When considered that the experiments which led to "The God Particle" researches emerged in a coffee shop discussion by 4 scientists, function of the coffee shop in the social department of CERN which reminds of a European university campus is important. The appearance is ordinary and there are a wide variety of delicious foods. Still, our kitchen is more attractive... CHAMPAGNE BOTTLES WERE POPPED! To see the "Large Hadron Collider", we entered into a "control room", the CMS control room, firstly. The general name of that department is SX5. They also call that region as P5, in other words, the collision point no. 5 on the LHC ring where the CMS experiment takes place. The control room is like an ordinary office where tens of giant screens, computers and many files exist... There were tens of empty champagne bottles in a corner, there were labels on them showing the dates and experiment names... IDENTITY FROM EYE MOVEMENTS We waited for a group to complete their visits and hand us the "key". Then we took our cards and helmets. However, it is impossible to enter this department unless scientists scan their eyes to open doors. When our guides scanned their eyes, doors were opened. Riitta said "People who work here are like modern miners". Indeed, we went deep under the ground and went through tunnels. We learned that every person there received education on basic radiation scanning, poisoning and the elevators are rescuers in case of fire. TUNNEL OR DETECTOR? There was a giant tunnel in the middle where accelerated particles collide and experiments are made. I believe that even seeing that giant tunnel is impressive. We jested with Mr. Sercan who has not even seen the tunnel despite working in CERN for a long time, but he said in a cool way that seeing Detectors was always more effective. Indeed, we first saw a model and then the detector itself. Gigantic! There were thousands of components and cables, it was like a giant logo, like Optimus Prime... And so on... Very impressive... HOW DID THE NAME GOD PARTICLE ORIGINATE? Many persons who are interested in this subject probably know this story but it will be better to repeat. Leon Lederman, who is a physicist, wrote a book and wanted to name the book, the sub title of which is "If universe is the answer what is the question?", "Goddamn Particle" but the book's publisher who wanted to cause a sensation decided to publish the book with the name "God Particle". Then, the particle who got its name from the physicist Peter Higgs has been called "God Particle" for years. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kerem Cankoçak is now in the Physics Department in Istanbul Technical University and continues his studies at CERN. At the same time, he is the editor of approximately 50 books published by Alfa Bilim and he aims to explain and popularize Physics in a popular language. This man who knows many things about the formation of the universe, planets, atoms, bosons, subatomic particles and physics theories do not know what "mention" is in Twitter! He now has an account on Twitter with his name after I insisted and said "Mr. Cankoçak we follow İsmet Berkan as a scientist, he visited CERN 20 times. Please be more sociable". He will share brief information on Twitter. THE UNIVERSE CANNOT BE PLANNED Accoc. Prof. Dr. Cankoçak said "The universe can be created but cannot be planned. Some claim that they create the universe in the laboratory but they cannot make a plan. Science, evolution and the universe cannot be planned." TRIBE IN PAPUA NEW GUINEA The Berinmo Tribe in Papua New Guinea was an impressive example given while examining the approach of physics on light and color. We learned that they named and even perceive colors differently! REDOUBTABLE LANDLADY AND THE THIEF... We did not just talk about physics during these three days. While we were speaking of theft, Riita told us about her aunt in Finland... One night, her aunt came face to face with a thief in her house. She neither panicked nor cried; she just said, "Sit down, let's have a little talk; I will show you the precious goods inside the house or the rich houses nearby. But let's have a conversation first". After that conversation, the thief, Timo who was 30 years younger than the 70 year old aunt stayed for 10 years in that house. He met the whole family and became one of them for years... Physics, now explain this to me! Why do we lose the accumulation of Turkish scientists in CERN to other countries? We talked with Prof. Dr. Samim Erhan, a scientist who has stayed in CERN for the longest time on a regular basis and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kerem Cankoçak in the garden of the research center. "Turkish", "foreign", "losing"... They became simple terms when they come together. But wait a minute. Let me explain the question in the title. Prof. Dr. Samim Erhan is a Turkish scientist who has stayed in CERN for the longest time on a regular basis. Prof. Dr. Perihan Tolun was the first person who went to CERN; however, she returned to METU. Prof Dr. Erhan has been there since 1982... We felt sorry after our conversation with Mr. Erhan since he had said that his personal rights have belonged to University of California for years. He participated in experiments on behalf of USA. The reason is simple. In the USA he is in a research team which we do not have in Turkey. If you are a member of the university's research staff, you do not have an obligation to give lectures or grade exam papers; you can only work for experiments... The reason is clear for a scientist... Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kerem Cankoçak was working for Iowa University until quite recently; now he works in ITU Physics Department... Some notes from our interview with Mr. Erhan: • In the simplest term, CERN is an institution which has accelerators and where scientists make experiments. Different accelerators work at different times. • People can participate in the researches in CERN under the name of four main universities in Turkey: Boğaziçi, METU, ITU and Çukurova. However, some scientists from other universities in Turkey have participated in CMS or Atlas experiments under these groups. ...

02.03.2013 Signature of Women in Insulation
Gülay Dindoruk, who has been involved in business life for a long time, and who formed an approach of women to the insulation industry, manages the general management of Capatect, which has performed 15 million square-meter of 55 million square-meter insulation application within the whole industry up until today. She said that Dindoruk companies have become 4 times bigger within the last 3 years and took the leadership of the industry and drew away its competitors. Dindoruk specifies that energy saving would accelerate the insulation industry. Signature of women in insulation industry Deputy General Manager of Filli Boya Insulation and General Manager of Capatect, Dindoruk says that they improve their target in the sector with factories which started operating in Gebze, Egypt and Kayseri. Gülay Dindoruk who has been involved in business life for a long time, and who formed an approach of women to the insulation industry, manages the general management of Capatect, which has performed 15 million square-meter of 55 million square-meter insulation application within the whole industry up until today. She said that Dindoruk companies have become 4 times bigger within the last 3 years and increased their market share in the industry and drew away its competitors. She stated that issue on energy saving which increased in importance day by day would accelerate especially the insulation industry and added: "We continue our works with the vision of being the biggest thermal insulation producer in Europe." Three factories were established. Gülay Hanım, how do you assess the year of 2012 as Filli Boya and Capatect? Turkey's exterior surface thermal insulation industry reached 55 million square-meters in 2012. We approach the position of one of the most important thermal insulation industries in Europe in terms of the size of our Industry. A total of 15 million square-meter insulation within this industry was applied by Betek and Capatect especially. After our factories in Gebze and Egypt sizes of which are 152 thousand square-meters and 11 thousand square-meters respectively, we opened Kayseri Factory size of which is 104 thousand square-meters, last April. Together with the largest exterior surface thermal insulation production plant of Anatolia in terms of technological infrastructure, production capacity and investment value, we will now be able to produce 36 million square-meters of thermal insulation systems a year. What are the 2013 targets of your company? This year, we aim at a growth of 20 percent which extends the growth rate of insulation industry. We believe that insulation will be a crucial criterion for homeowners while selling and renting out their properties when the energy identity certificate becomes obligatory. By this law, the energy amount consumed by all buildings becomes clearer by 2017 and an identity disc will be created and become a criterion which can contribute to or damage the value of the house. In 2013, energy consumptions by several buildings will be determined and the basis will be to minimize the energy consumed. Persons who want their properties to increase in value will try to obtain a class A certificate. To obtain a class A certificate, they should have a thermal insulation first. Because the 80 percent of the energy consumed in buildings is used for heating and cooling purposes. While we save approximately 50 percent of the consumed energy with the thermal insulation, our houses will increase in value. How do you assess your industry? What is your share in this industry? 40% of total energy consumed in Turkey is used at buildings and 74% of energy we need is imported from abroad. In over 16 million uninsulated residences in our country, a potential of annual saving and decrease in current account deficit of 10 billion dollars draw attention thanks to the thermal insulation application in buildings, which is the most important saving method. While UN countries plan to consume 20% less energy for 2020, they aim to apply sustainable energy in 20% of buildings, cause less greenhouse gas emission for 20% and fulfill 20% of energy requirement with sustainable resources. We are aiming for Turkey to approach the standards of EU countries. For this reason, we make several investments and continue our works with the vision of being the biggest thermal insulation producer in Europe. We became 4 times bigger. What differences did you make in your company since you take this position? We became 4 times bigger in thermal insulation industry in the last 3 years and we took the leadership of the industry and drew away our competitors. We accomplished this thanks to our company which focused in this subject dedicatedly and saw this as a social responsibility and thanks to our marketing programs. How do you describe yourself as a manager? My basic principle is to be sincere and sharing. I trust and support the team I work with. My principles regarding the industry are the same. How do you express your secret of success in business life? To focus on a field we believe, create development projects and follow these projects persistently. Do you have social responsibility projects which allow women to play more important roles in business life? Regardless of the fact that number of women in our industry is less than the other industries, this rate in our company is quite high in terms of both employees and management. We support the career development of our female employees. I give a lot of importance to the increase of the employment of women personally as a woman and a mother. Can you allocate some time for yourself and for your hobbies in this busy schedule? It is not always easy to achieve this; but I make a point of allocating time for myself, my family and friends. I think our private life supports us in our business life.

01.12.2012 Leader in Exterior Surface Thermal Insulation
In Turkey, only 15 percent of buildings have thermal insulation and the main reason of energy losses is that the thermal insulation is not applied at an adequate level... On the other hand, with a thermal insulation applied under appropriate conditions, fuel consumption can decrease from 100 units to 30 units. Deputy General Manager of Filli Boya Insulation, Gülay Dindoruk who emphasizes that the energy efficiency is the most important component of sustainable improvement and competitiveness explained the insulation report of Turkey as follows: "Turkey is a country energy consumption of which increases continuously among OECD countries but it falls behind in terms of the energy efficiency. Today, energy consumption and insulation become integrated and in our country, more than one-third of the total energy consumed is used for heating and cooling purposes in buildings. In today's conditions, only 15 percent of the buildings in Turkey are thermally insulated in total. Thermal insulation should be applied not only on new buildings but also on existing buildings." EMPLOYMENT FOR 48 THOUSAND PEOPLE Betek Group which has become prominent with the brand Filli Boya operates in insulation industry by 2003 in the insulation industry. Gülay Dindoruk explained the services offered and investments made by the company as follows: "Filli Boya Insulation Group put Capatect Thermal Insulation System which has a variety of product range and high performance and played an important role in the thermal insulation industry growth in our country with trainings and awareness campaigns. Filli Boya Insulation has the capacity and capability to produce all main products within thermal insulation systems in its facilities and in addition to this it launched the new facility in Kayseri in 2012. Together with the largest exterior surface thermal insulation production plant of Anatolia in terms of technological infrastructure, production capacity and investment value, Filli Boya will be able to produce 36 million square-meter thermal insulation system in a year and it provided employment for approximately 48 thousand persons to thermal insulation industry within 9 years. We become prominent with the investments we made for the industry. Within this scope, we aim to raise the awareness of the whole society on insulation with seminars held with the participation of architects and engineers, local administrations, building managers and persons from every walk of life. Our purpose is to train qualified employees for this industry with the trainings we provide for more than 10 thousand experts since 2003." Dindoruk stated that they have become the leader in the exterior surface thermal insulation with a market share of 30 percent in 2011 and added, "We plan to increase our market share with a growth which is larger than the industrial growth by contributing to the development of thermal insulation industry with the new products that we plan to put on the market. Moreover, we aim both to reach persons and companies which work in the field of construction for making the right selection in thermal insulation products and to make persons who perform the application of thermal insulation products more specialized in this field with seminar and trainings that we consider also in recent years." According to the Deputy General Manager of Filli Boya Insulation, Gülay Dindoruk; one of the most important problems in the industry is the unfair competition and the introduction of poor quality products to the industry... Dindoruk mentioned that if necessary actions were not taken, our national wealth would be wasted and added, "The introduction of thermal insulation system products which are produced as per the relevant standards by experts to the market and the prevention of misrepresentation of some construction materials which do not have thermal insulation characteristics are important in terms of the healthy development of the industry. It should be noted that every properly applied thermal insulation system allows both the users to make savings in the short and long term and contributes to the development of the industry."

30.11.2012 Time for transformation in energy efficiency
The issue of urban transformation is on the agenda. However most people, especially homeowners still do not know what kind of procedures they will face despite the explanations. These unclear procedures affect both the renewing of buildings and decisions of purchasing a new residence in the short term negatively. To shape the subject which will be developed in the medium term, correct information is required, and to transfer this information, effort should be made. Deputy General Manager of Filli Boya Insulation Group Gülay Dindoruk stated the following by approaching the subject from the perspective of construction industry development: "Increase of the residence production from 500 thousand to 1 million levels per year exhibits an extremely high business volume potential. However, we should emphasize one more time that this transformation is really important and should not be realized only by considering the earthquake resistance principle. Regulation for Energy Performance in Buildings which is still in effect but unfortunately cannot be developed rapidly should be considered in the transformation process and should remain on the agenda from the design to financing and construction of buildings." Dindoruk stated that the strength of buildings, compliance with thermal insulation standards along with their qualities and a rise in energy performance levels, as well as the examples of other world countries, would benefit Turkey in every respect during the transformation process, because it will give homeowners and the private sector insight in terms of the fact that buildings that will be constructed. The transformation will be supported in terms of energy efficiency and buildings, especially civil structures, will lead the field and will be based on principles regarding passive residences or low emission residences, such as the examples in Europe. Dindoruk stated, "If we could ensure transformation with energy efficiency by developing our standards, increasing insulation thicknesses and by providing encouragement and checks, we would then be approaching the targets regarding efficiency specified in the energy efficiency strategy report of the Ministry of Energy." Dindoruk especially emphasizes that we still consume fuel which corresponds approximately to USD 20 billion for heating and cooling purposes in our buildings and it is impossible to save minimum 50 percent of this consumption. Considering both current deficit balances and increasing carbon emissions, the importance of this issue comes to light once more. Dindoruk added lastly: "We have been structured to spread Filli Boya Capatect thermal insulation systems and energy efficiency to every point of Turkey with our thermal insulation system factories in Gebze and Kayseri, over 300 sales teams, more than 3 thousand dealers and more than 10 thousand certified experts. We deliver service and information along with our systems to both end users and industry professionals through trainings, seminars, projects and one on one interviews.

15.11.2012 Capatect Provided 10 Thousand "Green Business" Opportunities in Last 10 Years
With the brand Capatect, Filli Boya Insulation Group explained the importance of insulation for a sustainable future at the Green Business Conference. "Capatect Prevented 1.26 Million tonnes of Carbon Emission Thanks to the Thermal Insulation" Capatect brand of Filli Boya Insulation Group carries the operations it performed by being sensitive to the environment and society onto a different platform. Capatect participated at the Green Business Conference held for the fourth time by the Sustainability Academy which aims to contribute to the economic, social and environmental sustainability as the only brand from the relevant industry. This year's conference theme was determined as "Sustainable Business for Sustainable Future". In the conference, Filli Boya Insulation – Capatect explained the operations performed until present and the measures to be taken. Capatect proved the importance of the thermal insulation for the fight against the global climate change once again. Filli Boya Insulation Group Deputy General Manager Gülay Dindoruk made a speech as a speaker at the Green Business Conference and said, "We provided green business opportunities as a company. We educated 10 thousand experts in 10 years. We visited every city to raise the awareness of the public. With the insulations applied to buildings, we have prevented 1.26 million tonnes of carbon emission. This figure corresponds to 90% of Bolu forests." Dindoruk mentioned that 37% of the energy has been consumed in buildings. According to Dindoruk, 70% of the energy has been consumed for heating purposes in buildings. She said that this could only be prevented by thermal insulation applications. Moreover, Dindoruk explained the strategic steps to be taken by governments and by the business world. On the other hand, she provided information on where the construction industry would be positioned in this vision and how it would contribute to this vision. "A BETTER WORLD" project which has been carried on by WWF Turkey and Capatect was introduced to participants as an example. Filli Boya Insulation Deputy General Manager, Gülay Dindoruk who saw every part of Turkey said, "We provided green business opportunities as a company. We educated 10 thousand experts in 10 years. We visited every city to raise the awareness of the public." Working principles of the project which aims to raise awareness on climate change and energy efficiency by organizing seminars were explained. Dindoruk mentioned that 33% of the energy has been consumed in buildings. According to Dindoruk, 70% of the energy has been consumed for heating purposes in buildings. She said that this could only be prevented by thermal insulation applications. (www.fılliboya.com.tr)

01.11.2012 Architecture and colors were discussed in Design Soul
The Design Soul activity, which was organized for the first time this year by Filli Boya to introduce the near future vision of professionals from different disciplines in the construction industry under the roof of architecture, aims to gather architects and designers every year. This year, theme of the organization was "Soul of the Colors". The activity which will be held with different concepts every year took place in Construction Industry Center on 11th October 2012. Serra Yılmaz undertook the moderatorship of the activity. Fashion Designer Ümit Ünal made the first speech and emphasized that colors were underestimated by many people and by his colleagues; however, this mentality has changed especially since 2010. Secondly, Erginoğlu&Çalışlar Mimarlık Co-Founder, Kerem Erginoğlu made a speech and mentioned that "light" concept was important for architecture and explained the importance of color scheme in the process of designing places. The last speaker of the activity, 3XN A/S Contest Design Manager Marie Hesseldahl Larsen, mentioned works and projects realized by 3XN company that she has been working on for six years. Karsen said that within this context, they have made detailed analysis and projects have been formed on the "working area" and she mentioned about the deterministic colors used in their projects. 01.11.2012 We becoming colorful in a conscious way
We set out to get better acquainted with colors and we found 80 different colors with six characters. While reading "Coloration" which is a special project explaining the color trends of the future and which was prepared by Filli Boya with the cooperation of Ümit Ünal, we learned the details of the project from Ünal. "To create architecture is to put in order. Put what in order? Function and objects" says Le Corbusier. The whole point is that the objects become functionalized, isn't it? Everything we see, smell and feel has a function, doesn't it? If they do not become functionalized, their existences will have no meaning. Filli Boya, thinking just in this way, prepared a guidance with fashion designer Ümit Ünal who is the representative of Turkey in International Color Committee to make all the colors in its scale more functional. Ümit Ünal told us the book, "Coloration by Ümit Ünal Six Concepts Eighty Colors". How did your cooperation with Filli Boya and Coloration start? A company which is the leader in its country in the paint industry took a step to become more professional. People want to know how to use what they purchased and how to experience it. We wanted to explain the philosophy of colors beyond the painting of walls in their living spaces to them. Your experience regarding color is on an international platform for sure... I represent Turkey with Özlem Süer by the name of 34Color.İst on behalf of Intercolor in the color and trend commission of 16 countries, International Color Committee. After what we have done in this regard, we have started working to make Filli Boya a trendsetter in terms of color by discussing all philosophical thoughts regarding color together as Filli Boya and Ümit Ünal. We introduced Filli Boya Coloration. We wrote six stories which show the richness of diversity. We created characters from nature, light and water. There are beautiful photographs in Coloration. Did you make the photo shooting arrangements? I arranged all photographs. We took photographs which describe the persons within these six groups by using products from all stores of Adres İstanbul. We create a color terminology and named six concepts and eighty colors from Ümit Ünal. Each concept has special names and philosophies. There are informative quotes of different cult persons, from a Björk song lyric to a Da Vinci saying, regarding music, philosophy and fashion. Could you explain these six main characters? We offered 15 color scales to each person with different personalities. We added materials which will be combined as to these colors and other suggestions. Wabi is a culture in the Far East which takes all references from nature. A world of ageing and patinas. Qatsi means "life" in the Hopi Indians' language. It is a philosophy which progresses over the root colors explaining the balance of life. Aurora is a philosophy that takes its name from the dawn goddess of Rome. It consists of selections which harmonize with both each other and other contrast tones. Aquatic includes color types which pertain to water and are based on water colors in which the white color is dominant. Filafil: A character which is dominated by grey which has masculine forms especially for spaces of the business world. Prizmatik (Prismatic): A toy character which lives with the dynamism of youth or a colorful display case design. (www.fılliboya.com.tr)

30.10.2012 Heat insulation directly affects current deficit
We discussed both the industry and the energy efficiency with Filli Boya Betek Insulation Group Deputy General Manager, Gülay Dindoruk. Approximately 40% of the energy consumed in Turkey is used in buildings. Therefore, renewing and insulation procedures applied in residences and buildings provide energy efficiency on one hand and on the other hand, they mean saving. Filli Boya Betek Insulation Group is one of the companies which accelerates its works in this field. We discussed both the industry and the energy efficiency with Filli Boya Betek Insulation Group Deputy General Manager, Gülay Dindoruk. Here is what she told us... Specialty of Betek Insulation is thermal insulation and energy efficiency. Dindoruk says, "Thermal insulation which is applied on surfaces are important in terms of not only renewing and coloring the surface of the building but also providing a return as energy efficiency." Betek Insulation's report which specifies the steps taken for this process until April 2012 is also interesting. Dindoruk explains as follows: "Apparently we applied 36 million m2 of insulation. In return, natural gas saving of 590 m3 is provided. If we look from the viewpoint of the consumer, it is a saving of TRY 600 million." Since we import natural gas, this saving affects current deficit directly. Therefore, it is important. These figures have different equivalences. In this example it is equivalent to 1.24 million tonnes less carbon emission. In other words, this figure is equivalent to 93 percent of carbon dioxide absorbed by Bolu Forests within a year. However, 16 million buildings in Turkey still do not have thermal insulation. This indicates a saving potential of 10 billion dollars after the insulation is applied. How many buildings in Turkey do not have thermal insulation? Dindoruk replies as follows: "Last statistics were collected in 2001. 16 million buildings are in question. Since that day, approximately 5 million new buildings were constructed. We are reaching 21 million buildings. Most of the new buildings are thermally insulated. But what about the remaining 16 million? According to the figures, 85 percent of buildings do not have insulation." This figure is quite high. Dindoruk mentions that they are working to reach more people and especially end users. She says, "Our difference is that we can reach the end user. We established two factories but we made investments which are worth ten factories in the market. Our call center evaluates the requests. We visit buildings to explore and inform residents; we even attend the building management meetings. Requests increase for certain." On the other hand there is a social responsibility issue in this regard. They organized informative seminars in seven regions determined with the cooperation of WWF starting from last year. They organize platforms in which the effects of energy efficiency are discussed. They are also effective in social media. They even have a simple calculator on their Facebook page. With this calculator, people can calculate their own carbon emission. Activities of companies regarding the environment are important but not enough. Dindoruk says, "People should be encouraged to take actions for the old buildings."
06.10.2012 You can Call Us the Psychologists of Colors
Ümit Ünal who contributed to the project "Coloration" of Filli Boya said, "We worked as the psychologists of colors. Pastel tones of yellow, orange and green will become prominent this year." One of the renowned persons in the design world, Ümit Ünal is a member of Intercolour association which has been determining the trendy colors of the world by 15 years. . . This year, Ünal introduced the color experience which he gained from Intercolour with the "Coloration" series of Filli Boya. Ümit Ünal stated that in this series, they offered different life styles to people with 80 colors they determined under six main titles. We discussed with Ümit Ünal the world-renowned institution, Intercolour, which he is a member of, color world and "colorful" people he appreciates in Turkey. . . We are 50 people from 16 countries. Could you tell us about the "Coloration" project? Filli Boya's "Coloration" project is a work which indicates that the fashion is not only related with clothing but also with life. . . This year, the company kept a close eye on Intercolour of which I am the representative in Turkey. Intercolour determines colors which will become fashionable in the relevant year across the world. Their starting point is to reveal the existing potentials of people and divide these people into various characters sociologically. . . . Then, what is Intercolour? Intercolour is an association which was founded 40 years ago. . . At the beginning it was founded by the Japanese, English, French and Swiss people. We have been a member of this association with Özlem Süer from Turkey since 15 years. With Özlem, we provide consultancy services to plenty of companies and we organize seminars. We follow socio-cultural changes of countries, report the experiences in the language of colors and during this reporting process, we hold discussions sometimes with a writer and sometimes with an ethnic group or homeless people. This year, we came together with a group of 50 people from 16 countries. When will the next meeting of Intercolour be held? We gather on December and June every year. Our preparation period for each meeting lasts approximately six months. . . Brilliant Blue for the Young What will be the trendy colors of this year? The conclusion we reached at the end of our meetings was a story of transformation or diversity. This was a transformation from the digital world to a manual world. . . We transformed the technological world into the primitive one. According to these results, we put some of the 80 colors forward. This year, tones turning from grey to yellow and from green to turquoise will become fashionable. In other words, we will see these colors in the next winter months. . . Yes. More pastel tones of yellow, orange and green will surround us not only in the fashion industry but also in other fields from shoes to technological devices. Since young persons are living in a more digital environment, they will choose brilliant blue and laboratory blue. Color of Turkey You specify the color of people; what do you think about the color of Turkey in general? Especially when I look at Middle East and our country, I consider colors of dynamism and mobility quite appropriate. Although there are big losses and deaths within this dynamism, when we look at these regions we see not only silver gray or white but also the red color on white or grey colors. Thus, their contrasts are quite apparent. When some colors which clash with each other or conflict are combined, they are harmonized; however, some colors attack each other and become disturbing. The chaos that our country faces presents completely this situation. I create boards with colors which are strange, troubled with each other and which do not have a compromise story such as purple, red, black and maybe yellow, initial points and endpoints of which are unknown, on grey, in other words on uncertainty. You work like a psychologist but not like a fashion designer? Exactly, people could think in that way for our job. We work like the psychologist of colors. We make researches about why a color can be chosen and meet the demands. I think we destroy ourselves but in the future, we will create a brand-new world which will have deeper tones of crimson, red and green colors. Cem Yılmaz Does Not Necessarily Wear Colorful If you were a color, what color would you be? I would be red, orange and purple. Since my inner world is colorful, I do not use more colors on my clothes. For example; Cem Yılmaz. . . He is also a colorful person but when we look at his clothes, they are all black. Since he has all the colors in his inner world, he does not need to wear colorful clothes. He laughs, he can make other people laugh and he creates many ideas. Therefore, he is a color. I see that the people who think and create new things do not love a lot of colors together. Günseli Kato and Serra Yılmaz are also two artists that I admire; I believe that they are also colorful people. Ümit Ünal who has been following the socio-cultural changes of countries for 15 years and who is a member of the Intercolour association which reports experiences in the language of colors states the following: I believe that we will live in a brand-new world which will have deeper tones of crimson, red and green in the future.

Prof. Dr. Ferhat Bingöl stated; "In a place like Erzurum, we have become conscious within the last few years and we have concentrated on the practice. People have a physical urge for insulation since the early ages. Thanks to this seminar, most of us will understand the importance of insulation better." Chairman of Chamber of Mechanical Engineers Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bayram Şahin stated in his speech that "Erzurum and insulation are synonymous with each other. We should save energy by taking necessary measures in buildings which do not have insulation. If we save energy efficiently, we will make huge amounts of profit." Vice Chairman of the Board of Erzurum Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hasan Akal said, "We should perform our works by using less energy. We should avoid the cash outflow. Life standards are also high in insulated houses. We can protect our environment by using less energy." Erzurum Provincial Director of Environment and Urban Planning, Rasim Buluç said, "I want to thank Metropolitan Municipality and Palandöken Municipality for contributing to such a project. Insulation has two aspects. One of them is the economic aspect. In other words, we can save money by using less energy. The other aspect is the environment. If we use less energy, we can reduce our impact on the environment. However, we use four times more energy compared to other world countries. We should protect ourselves, our nature and the country by using less energy." In the seminar, subjects such as the importance of energy efficiency for the fight against climate, Turkey's current situation regarding energy efficiency, measures to be taken and the importance of thermal insulation for saving energy in buildings in Erzurum were shared with people from Erzurum. He took a risk and earned 668 million Liras
General Manager of Betek, which is known as "Filli Boya" by consumers, Tayfun Küçükoğlu has started to explain the operations of the company, which was founded in 1988 by Celal Akpınar, beginning from the first days on which they were trying to enter into the paint industry: - Our country was producing concrete additive materials in the period of 1988-1992 and became a leader in this field. The idea of examining the paint sector came to mind in 1992. We saw that there were four big players consisting of DYO, Marshall, Polisan and ÇBS. The industry's average capacity utilization per year was 50 percent. Shortly, it was insane to make investments for producing paint. He evaluated the products of those days: - The technology which was used in that period was 20-25 years behind the technology used in Europe. There were carcinogens in the content of some products. - Which steps did you take? - At first, we negotiated with German company Caparol for a license. We strived for two years to get a license. They offered old style products to us. We gave substantial commitments and convinced them to deliver the high technology products. He stated that in 1994, the partnership issue was brought to agenda: - Caparol gave 18 million German Mark which was a huge amount at that time and bought 15% of our company's shares in 1994. -Didn't they demand more? - They intended to buy 51% of the company. However, the founder family did not want to give the bigger share. In 1996, they bought 10% shares more. - How much did they pay at that time? - Both market and Betek was growing. Therefore, they gave 80 million German Mark for the share of 10%. Tayfun Küçükoğlu reminded us that Betek was founded with a capital of 80 thousand Dollars in 1988: - The company became capable of selling its shares of 10% to German Paint Giant Caparol for 80 million German Marks within 8 years. This amount presented the success of Betek in the industry. He underlined the turnover of the company in 2011 to explain their power within paint and thermal insulation industries in today’s conditions: - Our turnover for the last year was 668 million Liras. > He gave their German partner Caparol as an example regarding the amount of the turnover: - Caparol has made investments in 25 countries. The total turnover of those 25 companies cannot reach ours. At this point he emphasized their attitude in the market: - None of our products are on the shelf of big construction market chains, whether domestic or foreign. Because they acted as if they had determined the rules by themselves. We thought that if we worked with those market chains, it would be the end of the dealer system. We keep operating only with our dealers. Besides, exclusivity agreements are not being considered. Although it seemed insane in 1992, Betek entered the paint industry and succeeded to leave behind 25 countries that the German partner Caparol had made investments in with its turnover of 668 million Liras. While reaching this point, it proceeded with the dealers and this showed the industry's difference... We made natural gas savings of 620 million Liras in houses General Manager of BETEK Tayfun Küçükoğlu analyzed the role of their products especially EPS for thermal insulation: - Since 2003 in which we entered the thermal insulation industry, we reached approximately 380 thousand houses. In this way, we ensured that buildings use 590 million m3 less natural gas corresponding to 620 million Liras with the saving achieved in heating. He emphasized the employment aspect of the thermal insulation: -We created employment for 48 thousand persons in the field of application along with 1191 employees and 4500 dealers. We trained paint experts and made them specialize in thermal insulation. He mentioned that after the investment in Gebze in 2005, they launched the factory in Kayseri this year: - We are the only institution which produces all the main products of insulation systems. - How much did the total investments that you have made in factories cost? - The investment costs of three factories alone are 75 million Dollars. Then he added: - Total investments that we made in marketing and education reached 120 million Dollars. Having made investments also in Egypt, I asked Tayfun Küçükoğlu, General Manager of Betek, about the export figures: - Our annual exports reach 25 million Dollars in total but we do not find this sufficient. He emphasized that they should not have been satisfied with the exports and they should have made investments in some markets and showed Egypt as an example: - Egypt was the first place we looked when we started to consider foreign markets regarding investment. We have invested 10 million Dollars in 6 October City Industrial Zone in Egypt. We are thinking of increasing our capacity. - Don't you worry about the "Arab Spring" prevalent in the region, especially in Egypt? - We consider long-term investments. Therefore, we believe that within a short period, consistency will be provided in these regions. Paint consumption does not exceed 6 kilos per capita in Turkey General Manager of BETEK, Tayfun Küçükoğlu reminded us that they have put their first water based interior surface paint on market in 2001 and added: - Following this, we developed paints which were resistant to flowing which do not splatter or smell over time. In addition to this, the culture of our consumers has started to change as well. - How much paint is consumed per capita within a year in Turkey? - About 6 kilos. He gave examples from Europe and the USA: - The annual consumption per capita changes from 25 to 28 kilos in Europe and the USA. He emphasized that Turkey has a long way in this regard and reminded us of the markets that are still undiscovered: - Annual paint consumption per capita is at the level of 3 kilos in the regions of Africa and Central Asia countries extending towards China.

Filli Boya colours social media, too
The weather is getting warmer; therefore the paint and renovation season has started. Filli Boya takes the advantage of these busy days and tries to reach its customers with projects and works realized from all quarters. . . The brand transferred the intense communication in television to social media and its essential principle in this medium is "Projects integrated with conventional media". . . One of the most trending advertisements in the recent period was Filli Boya's campaign in which Tülin Şahin, Buğra Gülsoy, Gupse Özay and Zerrin Tekindor was featured. Everybody has kept on singing the jingle "Hayattan Rengi Alın Geri Neyi Kalır ki?" (Remove colors from life, what's left behind?) at short notice. The brand inspired from this trend and launched a video competition on their Facebook page. The competition drew great interest and hundreds of videos were shared from many regions of Turkey. This special project combined the commercial film and interactive world and it forms the basis of the strategy of Filli Boya on interactive medium. Do you wonder what this is all about? These are the interactive projects integrated into the new world. . . Interactive journey of Filli Boya which has been in an intense communication with its consumers through social platforms, mainly Facebook and Twitter, for approximately one year starts on 11th June. Marketing Communication Manager of Filli Boya, Selda Uzun stated that they, as a paint brand, have been using the colors of life and the life itself as a communication instrument and therefore, they directed their communication strategy through social platforms in this way. Uzun says "You can also observe this in the general communication strategy of Filli Boya for this year. Our purpose is not only to promote our products but also to remind the colors of life to those who like and follow our brand during their daily rush." She states that they achieve this by a decoration advice and sometimes by a humoristic cartoon. According to Selda Uzun; social channels are important media on which brands and consumers come together and establish a strong communication. . . Uzun says that they could obtain valuable consumer data for themselves sometimes from survey questions asked by consumers and sometimes from the comments they write. She adds: "We evaluate recommendations and comments in earnest. We try to shape our products and services in this way. We also get information on the problems of our consumers who have difficulties regarding our products and services through this channel and solve these problems within the shortest time. "Enjoyable micro campaigns Uzun expresses that one of the main purposes of this project is to create a sustainable communication instrument; thus, they cannot make extensive campaigns all the time. According to Uzun, they are trying to create a communication instrument via enjoyable micro campaigns all the year round; thus, they can always keep the interest to the brand alive. Uzun says that apart from these, the most important property of projects is "Projects integrated with conventional media" and adds: "We always try to produce 360 degree projects regarding social media communication. We aim to meet with our followers and strengthen the communication by integrating social media into other media. For example, the Valentine's Day project we realized this year is a good example of our strategy. Instead of launching a campaign in which the attendants would be awarded only through the social media in Valentine's Day, we tried to bring the meaning of this special day to the forefront and express the deep feeling of "Love" which is one of the most beautiful colors of life. For this reason we made an offer to Elif Şafak. Within this project, one of the love stories on our Facebook page was chosen by Elif Şafak. Ms. Elif reinterpreted the chosen story in her own style and this love story was published in her column in the newspaper Habertürk on Valentine's Day. Selda Uzun specifies that according to them, social media projects are also required to support public opinion regarding the brand and the general communication strategy as well as projects on other media in this direction and the most important thing is to create the right project which will draw the attention of a target audience. Uzun says that they listen to consumers, provide support for their problems, ensure sustainability while communicating in a medium which is more comfortable and far from corporate-ness, since they can establish closer communications with consumers in interactive media. She adds "The only difference between interactive and conventional media is that interactive media is neither one-sided nor periodical; it is an uninterrupted and sustainable communication channel. This makes us strengthen our emotional bonds with our target audience and gives us the opportunity to discover our brand thoroughly." Advertisements were published on YouTube for the first time. Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are the most effective and most visited social media sites used by brands. According to Uzun who says that they develop special projects as well as the daily posts on these sites, especially on Facebook and Twitter, these projects can either be for the benefit of users or social responsibility projects. On YouTube, commercials of the brand are published, the brand even prefer to publish the commercials on this site for the first time. Uzun states that they realize the interactive works conducted through the social media with Base İletişim and the team experienced in conventional PR in Base İletişim provides many important benefits to them regarding producing integrated projects and building the campaigns which have been realized in 360 degrees. The last interactive work of Filli Boya is the Facebook campaign prepared for AlpinaSilan Nevo. Tülin Şahin is the face of the campaign which will last for three weeks. In the project, answering the questions which are both enjoyable and promotional for the new product and which will be asked on Facebook will be enough to be eligible for draw. With the draw, tens of people will receive gift product vouchers to become closely acquainted with our new product. Moreover, three persons who will be selected at the end of three weeks, will come together with Tülin Şahin and together they will have a perfect shopping day. Marketing Communication Manager Selda Uzun; Numbers show everything "You have the chance to know your consumer closely and establish a more targeted communication in social media. For example, we can analyze the demographic structure of our consumers on Facebook. We can get information on what they like and their personal pleasures. Marketing world and brands will start to shape their general strategies and thus their campaigns based on these data soon. Hence we take steps in this direction. Moreover, it is a great advantage that these media are measurable. In other words, numbers show everything. You can easily evaluate the value of the communication. "

We humans can find a glass of water and drink it. We recover ourselves when we take a two hour nap in the shade. However, the situation is threatening for street animals. They cannot find water to drink. Many people, Tuba Ünsal being in the first place warn others in this regard via social communication networks such as Facebook and Twitter. They are reminded to put water cans on street corners. Animals living in my neighborhood are lucky in this regard. There are two big ornamental pools. I see that they can drink water from these pools. Of course, not all neighborhoods are like this. A cup of water you put on the street corner will help your day run smoothly. Meanwhile, Filli Boya has launched a good campaign for street animals. They donate 1 kilo of paint for every 20 invitation on Facebook and every 5 retweet on Twitter. I appreciate Ömür Gedik who organizes these projects through this page. We cannot make people paint exterior surfaces of their buildings in our village, Istanbul; at least animals will shelter in painted and clean places.

Fuel Saving with Filli Boya

In our houses, we consume energy which is worth 14 billion Dollars per year on a global scale for heating purposes only. More than half of this consumed energy is lost because of the heat transfer through the uninsulated walls. Because of the unnecessary emission of chimney gases to atmosphere, both environmental pollution increases and global warming is triggered. Whereas, if the thermal insulation is properly applied, it is possible to save 50% of fuel. With this saving, the cost of insulation can be amortized within 2 or 3 years. Capatect Thermal Insulation System which is released to the market by Filli Boya offers both aesthetics and endurance. Fiili Boya promises that Capatect Dalmaçyalı Thermal Insulation Plates have 20% higher insulation strength compared to its equivalents with the "Ideal Carbon Content" within its structure. Moreover, it eliminates the problems such as moisture and mold by allowing buildings to breathe.

Increased the market share by offering package system in thermal insulation

In the foreign market of insulation where large and small companies operate in Turkey, instead of offering individual products, Fawori, thermal insulation brand, succeeded in increasing the share it gained from market with the package system from 2% to 7%. For the insulation industry, 2010 is an active year in which both supplies and demands grow mainly on the side of the end user. According to the explanation made by Fawori, the thermal insulation brand, considering the thermal insulation materials volumetrically, it is foreseen that the market will grow by approximately 20% and exceed 8 million cubic meters. In the explanation, it is stated that considering mainly the end user and the thermal insulation and jacketing systems of exterior surfaces developing in the insulation market, it can be seen that plates comprise approximately 20% of the thermal insulation market. In the explanation it is pointed out that in this segment the growth exceeded the 35% levels and reached a market growth of 38 million square-meters. It continues with the following statements: "In our country the thicknesses are less than the European standards. When we consider as total square-meter we can say that Turkey is the second biggest market in Europe after Germany. In terms of the turnover of the market, all products forming the system (thermal insulation plate, plaster, adhesive, paint, coating and profile) reach 500 million Liras in total as the factory cost; they reach approximately 1.2 billion Liras exclusive of VAT when we add costs arising from dealers, applications and experts." In the explanation, it is stated that the biggest part of the foreign insulation market in Turkey consists of many companies which have small shares. The following is also stated: "An important part of these tries to sell individual products of the system instead of the system solutions. Fawori both produces compatible high quality products and forms a service infrastructure which supports sales channels by the broad distribution network. In this sense, Fawori raised its market share from 2% to 7% this year thanks to the package system."

There must be a Standard also for Insulation Products

Betek Insulation Group Assistant General Manager Gülay Dindoruk: "There must be a Standard also for Insulation Products" Betek Insulation Group Assistant General Manager Gülay Dindoruk who thinks that in Turkey, standards regarding the increase of insulation applications is on the agenda until today says; "These standards should be discussed also for the future but in the meantime, there must be standard for the system and products. " . . Betek which has started operating in the insulation industry in 2003 develops its works in this industry increasingly. The company has been awarded with the Investment of the Year prize in Insulation Industry Performance Awards with Gebze II Facilities which commenced operations on February, 2009 and in which the insulation products and construction chemicals of the group are produced. The company also supports the development of the industry by trainings and awareness campaigns. Betek Insulation Group Assistant General Manager Gülay Dindoruk who says that Betek performs effective works with brands of Filli Boya Insulation and Filli Boya Construction Chemicals adds "We provide service with Capatect thermal insulation systems for exterior thermal insulation systems and construction chemicals which we produce in this facility to the insulation industry." Dindoruk explains the Betek's entrance to the insulation industry as follows: "An investment in this field was essential for Turkey in a period in which the awareness on energy efficiency has risen. It was important for obtaining support from big and strong companies for this industry and providing proper materials to the industry. Betek saw this need and considered works in this industry as a social responsibility project of Filli Boya instead of trade and worked through this regard. On the other hand, one of the specializations of German Caparol Group which is a partner of Betek is thermal insulation. It is one of the most strong companies which has the greatest market share in the insulation industry in Germany. Therefore, we have an international accumulation as know-how and knowledge. We realized the needs of the market and used our knowledge; we decided to work more efficiently in the field of insulation." She adds: "The activities of Filli Boya regarding thermal insulation are increasing day by day. Both activities in the market and its share within the group are increasing. The paint is certainly an important field; however, it does not grow as fast as the insulation industry. Now we have a market share up to 20% in the thermal insulation. Insulation-construction chemicals consist a share of 15% as turnover within Filli Boya. We believe that this share amount will increase in the future. We shape our structure within company as to serve this industry both with our production capacities, personnel structure and organizational infrastructure. " "Potential of the insulation market in Turkey is quite high. Stock of uninsulated buildings is high in Turkey. Insulation is necessary also in terms of the energy saving. Figures up to 10 billion Liras are articulated in terms of the energy saving which will be made by insulation. We can say that the aforementioned figures are much bigger when heating and cooling are considered together. The fact is that this potential will rise faster once the Regulation of Energy Performance in Buildings enters into force. " Number of our strong competitors should increase "Both companies like us and associations worked and continue to work efficiently for the market growth. As the market grows, we still have not set the infrastructure of the quality service which we should provide as the industry. Since it is a "growing market", there are many producers who want to have a share from this. But unfortunately, not every infrastructure is capable to provide this service. We see that this business is carried out or more precisely, this business is claimed to be carried out sometimes with incorrect technical information, incorrect product ranges and sometimes with improper adhesives, chemicals and plates Since the end users do not have enough knowledge, they are not competent and they do not have the knowledge to select the right product. This situation is actually a disadvantage for the industry. Therefore we have to train both the industry and end users substantially. Demands should be aimed at the quality. Thus, works of bigger companies and associations are important. If companies like us can put the proper materials and the system with the proper operator on the market across Turkey, we will receive the demands regarding this aspect. For achieving this, the number of our strong competitors should increase. I always support the increase of quality competition, because, as the quality competition increases, unqualified development within market can be restrained. This is important in terms of both the economic interests of Turkey and the efficient development of the industry." Operators should be trained "There are standards for the thermal insulation in Turkey but these standards are not for the quality of the material. Until today, standards for increasing the insulation applications are discussed. These should be discussed also for the future. But in the meantime, there must be standard for systems and products. Operators should be trained and demands should be increased in this regard. Since we produce all of our systems by ourselves with our knowledge gained abroad, we have these standards. We try to explain this as far as possible." "Approximately 7 thousand experts have been trained since 2003 in RMI Institution within our company. We plan to increase this number in forthcoming periods. Because, no matter how good the systems are, proper insulation should be applied by proper methods. Therefore, we also work through this regard. On the other hand, we expect more effective inspections." Brands. . . "Betek operates as a holding structure. We are partners in production but when you look at the market, we have brands which address several different customer segments. Fiili Boya is the biggest among them. With Filli Boya, we try to provide service with a structure which addresses especially the end user, has strong penetration and which spreads to every point of Turkey. We provide service mainly with Capatect thermal insulation systems and Fiili Boya Construction Chemicals. Apart from these, we have Alseco which is a strong brand also in other countries. Alseco mainly addresses new projects which we provide one to one service from design works to the end of the project and in which we cooperate with architects and building contractors. We offer service with Fawori Thermal Insulation Systems under our brand of Fawori. We have formed a simple but effective structure in which we provide service for broad retail distribution from wholesalers in Fawori Thermal Insulation Systems. We improve as a quality but accessible system which will take the place of the fast growing market. With Alligator Thermal Insulation Systems, we provide different insulation systems which are for design and details of which were improved. " Dealership System "When our biggest and strongest brand, Filli Boya is considered, we provide service in 7 regions of Turkey with our structure which divided as 16 district offices. We have approximately 3000 dealers within this structure. Of course not all our dealers work in the field of insulation. We work with almost 500 dealers which serve in the field of insulation in more detail and more closely. This number increases day by day. We strive to make our dealers have "applying dealer" identity as far as possible. We exchange information and conduct trainings from the bidding stage to the stages of selecting the product which will be used and the application method in a continuous basis. These training programs continue consistently. The market and products are improving and different issues arise in competition. Information regarding these should be shared with others persistently." Production Manager of Betek Insulation Group, Tolga Sarı: "Sustainability of Quality Standards is Essential" Production Manager of Betek Insulation Group, Tolga Sarı who gave us information on Gebze II Facilities in which insulation and construction chemicals of Betek are produced states the following regarding the facility: "Betek Gebze II production facilities are one of the well-conceived, best designed facilities with high capacity both across Turkey and Europe. The facility has been planned, designed and then put into practice according to a prospective sales and development projection. We solidified this claim with the "Investment of the Year" prize we have been awarded with in Insulation Industry Performance Awards in 2009." "Total investment of Gebze II facilities reached 30 million Euros. The facility has been constructed on an area of approximately 48 thousand square-meters, 40 thousand square-meters of which is enclosed. Production at high tonnage is not important alone, sustainability of quality standards is also an essential selection criterion for the market. If your technological facilities are not available, it is hard for you to make production at the same quality standard. Technologic infrastructure in this facility is based on the philosophy of the sustainability of the quality standard of the product. Technologically, we broke new grounds regarding our industry in this facility. " "We have 4 separate production facilities as Insulation Group Production Facilities. Two of them are Dry Mortars Production Facility and EPS Production Facility in Gebze II production facilities. Dry Mortars Production Facility is a highly technological facility which has the production capacity of 240 thousand tones/year. EPS production facility is a facility equipped with the state-of-art technology and in which our plates known as Dalmaçyalı and other plate types are produced. Apart from these, we produce exterior surface decoration profiles and decorative exterior surface material, Elastic Brick which is widely known in Europe yet little known in Turkey.

The trend determined the super brands

Turkey's super brands, determined every two years, were selected. For the first time this year, Ağaoğlu, Acıbadem Group, İstinye Park Shopping Center and TAV ranked among the 117 brands determined by the measurements of the Superbrands, Selection Committee and Nielsen. Newspapers and televisions were excluded from the super brand category for Turkey SATFİYE YUVA KİREÇCİ İSTANBUL - Türkiye's super brands were determined one more time. For the first time this year, brands such as Ağaoğlu, Acıbadem Group, İstinye Park Shopping Center and TAV ranked among the 117 brands determined by the measurements of Superbrands, Selection Committee consisting of the leading persons from the business world and Nielsen. Newspapers and televisions were excluded from the super brand category for Turkey. Many big companies which were on the list in the previous period could not make the category of Super Brand. In the selection of super brands, the company's technology, investments, labor quality, creativity, investment in branding and brand continuity, contribution to social responsibility projects, environmental sensitivity, compliance to ethical values and place in the tax brackets are important as well as its size. The selection is made every two years. It was delayed one year because of the crisis in 2009. Superbrands make this selection in 86 countries across world. The Turkish section of Superbrands determined 1046 brands at the first stage. The decision committee consisting of "Leaders of the industry" selected 306 of these 1046 brands. Nielsen Consumer Research Group performed measurements for 306 brands which entered the short list under different categories. Business Development Manager of Nielsen, Ebru Usta Canbulan said "Evaluations were made by using a scale of 100 within 18-56 year old 1635 women and men from all SES groups in Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir. Then, 117 of these 306 brands were selected considering both the data of Nielsen and the evaluations made by leaders of the industry." Turkey representation of Superbrands Dilek Koç Etike said "Different brands in many fields from service industry to communication, from food, financial services, cleaning and personal care products to technology products, were involved in the superbrand research. Among these 117 brands which were determined as superbrands there are different brands from many industries." Koç Etike specified that considering the order on the basis of the industry, brands in food industry were at the forefront; "Finance and banking industry followed the food industry. Technology and GSM industry were also at the forefront. The most interesting result in the research was that Turkish people did not give up their "Yeni Rakı" despite the new brands entered into the market. Consumers care Dilek Koç Etike stated that superbrand selection was important for consumers; "It is also important in terms of the brand recognition. Superbrands operate in 86 countries across world. We made Superbrand selections in 2005 and 2007 in Turkey. In general, this selection is made in every two years but this time a three year delay was chosen due to the crisis. The next superbrand will be determined in 2012." Dilek Koç Etike gave information on the selection committee and added; "Leading persons from the business world were involved in this committee. However, the most important criterion when making selection was as follows. No one could vote for his/her own company or industry. This is important in terms of the objectivity of the voting."

Who was in the Selection Committee? CEO of Borusan Holding, Agah Uğur; Board Member of Desa, Burak Celet; Chairman of Vakko, Cem Hakko; Chairman of Bahçeşehir University, Enver Yücel; Chairman of Rixos, Fettah Tamince; Chairman of EURORSCG, Levent Erden; Chairman of Arkas, Lucien Arkas; General Manager of Teknosa, Mehmet Nane; Board Member of Euro Tekfenbank/CEO, Mehmet Sönmez; Chairman of ITO, Murat Yalçıntaş; Chairman of Akbank, Suzan Sabancı Dinçer; General Manager of THY, Temel Kotil; Board Member of Unilever, Zeynep Yalım Uzun; Corporate Communication Director of Yıldız Holding, Zuhal Şeker
